Lighting is always an important consideration when considering any celebration.. of course, if you are celebrating at your home, the best thing you can do to make your home warm and inviting is to get the everyday lighting correct to start with.. then special celebration lighting won’t be too much of a hassle to install over the top!

I recently purchased an Alessi Juicer for some friends.. it’s always a talking point! The site is very well laid out, making it easy to find what you are looking for quickly and with no hassle. The range is superb.. much bigger than you could find in a bricks and mortar store.

I particularly like the Babette Holland table lamps and can imagine a few strewn around out loungeroom to give the place some atmosphere!
Of course Lumens also stock ceiling fans. Fans are making a comeback as many people are finding that air conditioners are very expensive to run, as well as noisy. Some environments just need improved airflow, which is exactly the benefit of a fan, and there are definitely places like outdoor patios and balconies where fans are a real boon during summer. In many Western cultures, holly is a traditional Christmas decoration, used especially in wreaths. Many of the hollies are highly decorative, and it’s believed that it and the green ivy that is usually used alongside it in decorating is why the colors red and green have come to be representative of Christmas.
The pagan Druids are believed to have been the first to take holly to heart. They viewed holly as a sacred plant, designed to keep the earth beautiful even in the harshest of conditions. When they ventured into the forest to witness the priests cut their sacred mistletoe, they wore sprigs of holly in their hair.
Romans gave one another holly wreaths and carried them about, decorating images of Saturn with it during their Saturnalia festival. Centuries later, in December, while other Romans continued their pagan worship, Christians celebrated the birth of Jesus. To avoid persecution from the Romans however, they decked their homes with Saturnalia holly. As Christian numbers increased and their customs prevailed, holly lost its pagan association, then becoming a symbol of Christmas. (more…)
