409Just Like Leia—Creating The Perfect Princess Leia Costume

‘Star Wars’ has exploded into a major cultural phenomenon. What began as a few movies has snowballed into a series of sequels, collectables, and fan clubs. Not even the internet has escaped the “Star Wars effectâ€â€”the discussion forums for Star Wars are numerous.
For those who have become very obsessed with the movies, it might at some point be necessary to have a Princess Leia costume. Whether the costume is for a meeting of a Star Wars-obsessed fan club, or simply as a Halloween costume, you have the option of ordering a costume or creating one yourself. Why not take the creative route? Creating a Princess Leia costume is not hard to do!
Do It Yourself
When making your Princess Leia costume, it is important to make sure that you include all of the elements of the character in order to make the costume as authentic as possible. The most important part of the costume is the white dress that Princess Leia wears. The dress can be made by using a pattern, which can be found at a local fabric store or online.
The accessories are also an important part of the Princess Leia costume. The belt can be created from leather, and you can burn the edges to make it look more realistic. Though little is known about the boots that Princess Leia would have worn, most people purchase white snow boots or white patent leather boots.
Perhaps the accessory that most distinguishes Princess Leia is her hair style. The two braids rolled up on each side of the head have become iconic of the princess. In order to recreate this style with your natural hair, it must be long enough to do so. However, most women end up purchasing a long wig and then styling it.Â
You can style the wig for your Princess Leia costume by first parting the wig down the center. Next, put on the wig and put each section of hair in a pony tail close to the ear. Braid each side, and then roll each up into a wig and secure in place with bobby pins.
A Collection Of Characters
If you are trick-or-treating for Halloween, or to a convention of Star Wars fans, then you can stand out even more by arriving in a group of people all dressed as Star Wars characters. In your group, you might want to include characters such as Luke, Hans Solo, Yoda, and a few Wookies. This will make more of a lasting impression on the people at the event you are attending. What people will remember most, however, is a home-made Princess Leia costume!
