414Learning How to Make a Starfish Costume

Making your own costume for Halloween is not only fun and enjoyable, but will also end up saving you a lot of money, and this is something that everyone can appreciate. One costume in particular that is a lot of fun to make is the starfish costume, and if you are interested in making the starfish costume for yourself, then there are a few items you will need and a few steps that you will have to follow.
Gathering the Materials for Your Starfish Costume
The first thing that you need to do is gather all of the tools and materials together that you are going to need for your starfish costume, and fortunately there are only really a few things in particular that you need. The best idea is to use an old tank top or t-shirt of your child’s, and then draw your starfish right onto the top.
Make sure that the starfish design is large enough to cover it well, as you want people to be able to tell that what it is. Then you want to make a cardboard template of the starfish, trace it out onto the fabric that you are going to be using to make the actual starfish costume out of, and then cut it out, whipstiching the edges so that it does not unravel, and then have fun decorating it with whatever you want, using glitter, sequins, gems, whatever you like.
Another great way that you can make a starfish costume is much more suited for an adult version of the costume, as you want to use a simple bikini top here, and then get some bright orange or pink fabric, cut it into a starfish shape, hem it, use fabric glue to attach all of the shapes right onto the top, and then decorate it using sequins or glitter.
You can really bring a ton of different ideas to the table for a costume such as this however you do want to make sure of a few things. One, you do not want to have anything hanging off of the outfit that might fall off during the night, and so have everything either properly glued or sewn on.
As well, you do not want to overdo it with the glitter, sparkles, or gems, because this will take away from your overall outfit. Try not to go too many ways either, for instance if you want to use glitter then just stick to glitter and maybe a couple of gems, rather than using a bit of several different things. You want to keep the outfit simple, and yet personalize it, which can be a bit tricky sometimes without going overboard.
